Welcome to Barefoot in the Backwoods, where I meander through life with untethered vigour and zeal. I believe in saying ‘Yes!’ to the most absurd opportunities and always jumping in with both feet. I offer to you a window into my exploits, be they travel, outdoor, kitchen, or garden related, as well as general musings about nothing.
And who am I? I’m Emma. Raised on a small farm on Vancouver Island, I grew up learning to grow and pickle vegetables, raise sheep and chickens, and cook pretty much anything. I took great joy in frolicking through obscure corners of the backwoods, climbing mountains, and navigating the honeycomb of logging roads that covers our island. Not much has changed. I still live for prancing through the forest barefoot and leaping into rivers. I am a bold cook who will try anything, and I’m beyond delighted to have a small garden again. I also masquerade as a professional and sometimes fill roles ranging from scientist and data wrangler to environmental advocate. I spend a lot of time in board rooms, herding scientists, ship captains, or IT professionals.
Fun fact: I have no idea what I’m doing, and I’m still trying to figure out the purpose of Barefoot in the Backwoods. What I can promise you is regular (every month or so) posts about living life. I’d love to hear what you think and what you’d be interested in seeing and reading about! Drop me a line and I’d be happy to chat!
